A twenty seven page pattern
Measurements: Theatre: 22in (56cm) tall, 11¼in (28.5cm) wide and 6¼in (16cm) deep. Punch, Judy and Policeman: 4½in (11.5cm) tall, without hat and legs. Crocodile and Toby: 4in (10cm) tall, without hat.
You will need: Of standard Chunky-weight acrylic yarn: 145g in Bright Red, 145g in White, and 80g in Pale Blue; of standard DK-weight acrylic yarn: 50g in Bright Red, 20g in White, 16g each in Flesh Pink and Sunflower Yellow, 12g in Royal Blue, 10g each in Saxe Blue and Leaf Green, 8g in Jade Green, 6g in Pale Yellow, 4g in Cream, 2g each in Black, Chocolate Brown, Coffee Brown, Dusky Pink and Apricot, 1g each in Ginger and Pink; 1g oddment of silver lurex yarn; 1g oddment of light grey fluffy DK yarn; pair each of 3mm (no.11), 4mm (no.8) and 6mm (no.4) knitting needles; a 3.50mm crochet hook; 50g of washable toy stuffing; an A1 (23¼in x 33in/594mm x 841mm) sheet of white mounting board; roll of ½in (12mm) wide masking tape; roll of ½in (12mm) wide double-sided sticky tape; five wooden chopsticks; craft knife; long ruler; long tweezers; soft red pencil; clear adhesive; hair spray.
PLEASE NOTE: The knitting of the theatre is very straightforward, but the assembly requires a certain degree of craftwork experience, so if you don’t feel confident enough to tackle this entire project you could simply knit the stick puppets and create your own stage by draping a cloth over an open cupboard door, behind which the puppeteer can crouch.
